The local organizer and host on behalf of the German Billiards Association (DBB) was 1. BC Gütersloh 73. The venue was the Catholic club house, which was able to provide the appropriate equipment with its premises.
Dieter Müller from Berlin won his 31st German championship title in Gütersloh. Without losing a set he won the final in two straight sets against Hans-Jürgen Kühl from Altenessen, who surprisingly made it into the final. In the semifinals, Kühl was able to bring down favorite and defending champion Günter Siebert with 2-1 sets.
