The German Three Cushion Championship 1976/77 (DDM) was the 43rd edition of this tournament series and took place from December 9th to 12th, 1976 in Hamburg .

history

Because of planning errors in the previous history, the championship was rescheduled and given to Hamburg at short notice. The requirements of the DBB were to play a certain number of players on the three (rolling) tables of the DBB in four days. Since the number of games was incorrect, rescheduling had to be carried out at short notice, and a solution to the planning errors was only found an hour before the start of the tournament.

mode

The players were divided into four groups of four players each (GR). The game system was changed again from the previous year, away from the set system and back to the distance game on 60 points, everyone against everyone. The group winners and the two best on average made it to the final round, also everyone against everyone, without a separate final or game for third place. The final placement was based on the match points (MP). The entire tournament was played with a push .

Grouping

After the initial class, the following group divisions resulted:

Dieter Haring Günter Siebert Joseph stooping Hans-Jürgen Kühl

Tournament course

Preliminary round

Group A

In the first group, the defending champion Dieter Müller from Berlin had difficulties against Richard Biener from Munich, played a draw against Gert Tiedtke and finally lost against his club mate Dieter Häring (German champion from 1970) with 38:60. He was eliminated in the preliminary round and could not qualify for the three-cushion European championship in 1977 in Lausanne . Haring emerged as group winner. Tiedke finished second, but could not take part in the final round because of the poorer average.

Group B

Günter Siebert from Hattingen played confidently and won all matches. Berlin's Peter Kuhring set the tournament's highest series of 11 with an individual average (ED) of 0.909 and came in second. Due to the weaker general average (GD), however, this was not sufficient for participation in the final round. Without a win and with little experience in the tournament, Hans Kessler from Saarland took last place.

Group favorite Joseph Bücken entered the final round without losing a match. Peter Sporer was able to take two matches with him and made it to the finals with the best average as second in the group. Göring and Kleine-Weischede were eliminated.

Final round

After three of five rounds it became clear that either Joseph Bücken or Günter Siebert could become German champions, as the averages dropped and the competitors took each other's points.

Tension came into the final when Bücken lost to Häring and Siebert lost to Kühl and places 1–5 had not yet been clearly played out. Until then, Peter Sporer was in last place without a victory point.

With 60:31 in 46 shots Siebert finally secured the championship title in the best match of the tournament, in which he also set Peter Kuhring's series record at 11. He was guaranteed to participate in the EM next January.

The 60:50 victory of Sedello against Kühl was also surprising. Sedello was the first runner-up, with Dieter Häring taking third place.

The results of the final round participants only show the results of the final round in the match points and the overall average, the results of the preliminary round were not included in the evaluation for places 1–6.
