The German three-cushion championship 1969/70 (DDM) was the 36th edition of this tournament series and took place from September 11 to 14, 1969 in the Rheinterrasse in Düsseldorf , North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The Rheinterrasse as the venue in the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital Düsseldorf was already to be regarded as traditional. The low number of visitors to this championship was to be lamented, despite the promising backdrop of the Rhine. Responsible for this was German Billiard Federation (DBB) made that this variety of opinion of the players crash not applied sufficiently enough.

Seeded players were Dieter Häring, defending champion, Siegfried Spielmann , Ernst Rudolph , Dieter Müller , Gert Tiedtke and Erich Heinrichs. The four winners of the federal championship 1st class August Tiedtke , Rudolf Apelt, Joseph Bücken and Hans-Dietrich Runzel completed the field of 10 players.

Defending champion Häring played disappointingly at the beginning, but was able to improve his game and oust his Berlin club mate and Cadre 47/1  European champion Dieter Müller from second place in the table. Spielmann, chairman of the organizing club and active participant, looked tense and nervous. He had previously participated in two strenuous tournaments and so fell short of his possibilities. Rudolph also seemed indisposed, even partially listless, so that he too remained below his usual skill level. Müller, whose specialty is the cadre, was relatively new to three-cushion. But also in this discipline he made great progress and was able to defend second place in the table until his last game when he lost to the eventual tournament winner August Tiedtke. His brother Gert, actually at home in the art thrust, dropped out in the group qualification, as did Heinrichs. The unlucky person of the tournament was Runkehl. His game against Apelt was dramatic. It was either fourth or eighth for him. Runkehl led with 57:50. He then began his admission to the last three points for victory with the wrong ball. The referee dismissed. Apelt comes to the table and takes a shot in seven, Runkehl comes back to the table, looks nervous and makes a mistake. Apelt plays his last three points, Runkehl missed his follow-up.

The award ceremony was held by the General Secretary of the DBB, Helmut Kleinmann. The Düsseldorf Billiard Friends as organizers provided material items as a price replacement, as did honorary president Albert Poensgen other special prizes. For August Tiedtke it was his 20th gold medal and at the same time his last. He died in July 1972 at the age of only 59.

mode

It played "everyone against everyone" ( round robin mode ) in two groups of five players each with 60 points with a kick . The best eight then played in the finals under the same conditions.
