The German Three Cushion Championship 1971/72 (DDM) was the 38th edition of this tournament series and took place from December 9th to 12th, 1971 in Essen , North Rhine-Westphalia .

Tournament commentary

Two months before the scheduled match date, the direction was still unclear. The Billardfreunde Altenessen took the initiative after more than a year without hosting and organized the DDM in their own clubhouse.

After all players, with the exception of defending champion Runkehl, had to surrender one of their games at halftime, he - in the fifth round still 10: 0 match points ahead - played against the Berlin series player Dieter Müller (6: 4 on points with Günter Siebert ) in round six ) and immediately lost with 56:60.

The championship was open again. However, Müller then lost to Rudolf Apelt in the final round and was thus eliminated from the medal ranks. Apelt was third.

Championship rookie Siebert played consistently excellent, but lost to Ernst Rudolph despite an average of 0.980 . With a series of 14 points, Siebert was only 1 point below the record of Siegfried Spielmann's 1954 when he was 15, thus securing his first championship title.

Despite two games with an average of over 1.0, Rudolph was fifth behind Müller. Spielmann, struck by a cold, followed in sixth place.

mode

It played "everyone against everyone" ( round robin mode ) to 60 points with a push .
