The German Three Cushion Championship 1931 (DDM) was the third edition of this tournament series and took place from March 27 to 29 in Cologne , North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

Since at that time the three-cushion game was mainly played in and around Bergisches Land, the DABB decided to have this year's championship there too. He wrote to various clubs asking them to organize the DDM. But even in the run-up to the tender there was friction as a result of the resurgence of old quarrels between the Bergisch clubs. As a result, a group of the final rounds had to be taken over at the last minute by the “Kölner Billard Klub” in order not to ruin the work and results of the preliminary rounds. The then association president Robert Court sent some ambassadors to the clubs to mediate. However, this showed little success and so he decided without further ado to host the championship in his home club. However, he had not discussed this with the club president, Mr Sponek, but rather ordered it. He had announced this in the billiard newspaper of the German Amateur Billiard Association (DABB), which appeared on March 22, and was also its editor-in-chief. When he met Sponek a few days later, who at that time did not yet have a copy, he asked him warningly: “You have read the BZ, haven't you? There are important things in there for you. You know that the three-cushion championship will be held here this week. Have you taken all the precautions? ”Terrified by the fact that a championship tournament could be set up within two or three days, Sponek went straight to work. A total of 81 referees, scorers and helpers made the impossible possible and so the tournament could take place two days later.

The defending champion was Otto Unshelm , third in the three-cushion world championship in 1928 , who again came under the top two, but had to admit defeat to Georg Berrisch.

mode

It played "everyone against everyone" ( round robin mode ) to 50 points.
