The two-time title winner August Tiedtke from Duisburg won his third title in a row, and Georg Berrisch was runner-up for the fourth time, after only finishing fifth last year. After the regular games there was a tie of 10: 4 between Tiedtke and Berrisch, and so a game of play had to be played to determine the winner. The Duisburg won this relatively close with 50:42 and relegated Berrisch to second place again, but Berrisch Tiedtke's record in the top series (HS) of 11 from autumn 1935. This time too Tiedtke held tournament records for the general average ( GD) and the best individual average (BED). After not taking part in the previous championship, the five-time winner Otto Unshelm took third place again, as in 1935, again with the same number of points and the better GD. The tournament newcomer Karl Kredel finished last without a win.
