Syrian Islamic Front ( Arabic الجبهة الإسلامية السورية al-Jabha al-Islāmiyya al-Sūriyya ; Abbreviation : SIF ) was a Syrian - Islamist rebel organization and foughtalongside other organizations against the Assad government during the civil war in Syria . At the end of November 2013 she founded the Islamic Front with six other Islamist groups. The largest faction within the Syrian Islamic Front and the dominant force were the Ahrar al-Sham .

The rebel group was founded in December 2012. The leader of the Syrian Islamic Front was Hassan Abboud , also known by his battle name "Abu Abdullah al-Hamawi", who was killed in a bomb attack in September 2014. The kings and emirs of the Gulf States of Qatar , Bahrain and Saudi Arabia and some Islamic organizations financed the Syrian Islamic Front. A total of 15,000 to 20,000 men are said to have been organized in the Syrian Islamic Front. The rebel organization operated in Aleppo , Idlib and Hama .

The Syrian Islamic Front viewed the fight against Assad as a “holy war” ( jihad ) and thus a religious duty for every Muslim. She fought for an Islamic State with Sharia as the state and legal basis. The Syrian Islamic Front rejected any foreign interference, especially the West, in the civil war. Since the establishment of the Islamic Front , the SIF has been fully integrated into it and has died out as a separate party.
