Hassan Abboud
Hassan Abboud ( Arabic حسان عبود, DMG Ḥassān ʿAbbūd , also known by his fighting name Abu Abdullah al-Hamawi (أبو عبد الله الحموي / Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥamawī ); † September 9, 2014 in Ram Hamdan , Idlib Governorate , Syria) was a Syrian rebel leader and co-founder and leader of the Ahrar al-Sham . The FAZ described him as "one of the most important figures in the Syrian opposition to the government in Damascus".
Hassan Abboud became known as the leader of the Syrian Islamic Front . Since the end of January 2013, he was also the leader of the Ahrar al-Sham group . He fought against the regime of Bashar al-Assad and advocated a state in which the Sharia is the only legitimate state and legal system.
Abboud spent several years in Syrian custody in Saidnaya and was released after the outbreak of the civil war .
On September 9, 2014, Hassan Abboud was killed in a bomb attack in Ram Hamdan (north-west Syria).
