Alfons Wonneberg

Alfons Wonneberg (born April 22, 1927 in Berlin ; † August 12, 2013 in Schöneiche near Berlin ) was a German jazz and entertainment musician who emerged as arranger , band leader and university lecturer .

Wonneberg learned violin and accordion and from 1945 studied trumpet , accordion and trombone at the municipal conservatory in Berlin . He was the head of IG Jazz . In 1947 he founded his first orchestra with which he played jazz and dance music and was also allowed to go on tours abroad. For a time he was an editor at Lied der Zeit . In 1957 he made his first recording for the Amiga record label when he and his ensemble accompanied the singer Georgia Milton ( My Blue Heaven / Lover Man ). He founded the Alfons Wonneberg Orchestra named after him , with which he has performed in 48 countries around the world. Nina Hagen came to him in 1972 and began her career there. From 1976 he headed the dance and light music department at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin until his retirement. He then taught the history of jazz and arrangement until 2007 .

In 1999 Wonneberg founded the first Berlin Uni-Big-Band ( Uni Big Band Berlin des Collegium Musicum from FU and TU Berlin ), which he directed for two years. He was the leader of the Boys & Girls big band and played coffee house music with the cappuccino quartet . He was a guest conductor and juror with various regional youth orchestras.

In the course of his life, Wonneberg wrote hundreds of arrangements for orchestra. In 1959 he received the GDR Art Prize .
