The billiard amateur association Westphalia, as the local organizer, had organized the three cushion championship in the Gelsenkirchen sports center Schürenkamp.
For the first time in the 51-year history of the German Billiards Federation, Dieter Müller, an actor, won the championship with a tournament general average (GD) of over one (1.005). This magical limit was exceeded by the second Günter Siebert . The Essen player played the best GD of the tournament with 1.027 .
