The German Three Cushion Championship 1963 (DDM) was the 30th edition of this tournament series and took place from March 7th to 10th in Saarbrücken , Saarland .

history

After a break of several years, Walter Lütgehetmann from Frankfurt took part in a three-cushion championship again, although his game was more of a cadre game . For his sporting achievements, he was given the "Jaques-Zweifel-Challenge Cup" donated in 1927 as permanent possession. It was presented to him by the Honorary President Albert Poensgen . Poensgen had obtained this trophy himself in 1927 and won it himself a few times.

The defending champion and serial winner August Tiedtke did not take part. At that time, Hans Ritschel from Munich was seen as his worthy representative, who in the end received the silver plate for the best individual average (ED) from Poensgen's hands .

Overall, the tournament was described as rather weak. This was partly due to the unusual gang tee with which all players had to fight. So it was not surprising that the general average (GD) lagged behind that of recent years. The hardest hit was Siegfried Spielmann , who is known to give up quickly when the idea and reality of the material do not match. And so he only came in fourth place in the end. The American Clay Sherman, who has now settled in Germany, also had bad luck. If he was before Janzen at the national championship in Karlsruhe, he had to wait due to the weaker GD and hoped in vain for a cancellation by a qualified player. After the normal games, it was between Rudolph and Lütgehetmann 10: 4, both had lost two games each. So a trick game had to decide for the title. This was won by the Cologne 60:50 in 82 shots. It was his fifth three-volume title and his 12th German title overall.

mode

It played "everyone against everyone" ( round robin mode ) to 60 points with a push .
