The three-cushion world championship has been held in the three- cushion carom variant since 1928 . The World Cup, which was organized by the Union Internationale des Fédérations des Amateurs de Billard (UIFAB) until 1953 and, since 1960, by today's world collision association UMB ( Union Mondiale de Billard ), usually takes place once a year.

1928 to 1958: 50 points
1960 to 1984: 60 points
1985 to 1987: 50 points
1988 to 2011: 3 sets of 15 points each
2012 to 2019: 40 points
Until 2019 the shot clock was set to 40 seconds with the possibility of 3 extensions per player / match.

Records
- The record winner of the tournament is, by far, the Belgian Raymond Ceulemans with 21 titles.
- The UMB redefined the rules for records in 2017. According to this, at least five games must be completed for a record in the general average. A distinction is made for records at world championships and world cups. These can only be set up in this tournament format. There are also world records that can be set at all official tournaments worldwide.
- The best general average (GD) of a player at a World Cup was achieved by Dick Jaspers from the Netherlands in Cairo in 2018 with 2.352 .
- The Korean Kang Dong-koong played the best game at a World Cup up to 40 points with 5,714 at the 2013 World Three Cushion in Antwerp. Raymond Ceulemans played the best game up to 50 points in 1986 in Las Vegas with 2,631. Raymond Ceulemans made it to 60 points in Lima in 1966 with 2,500. In the sentence system, Frédéric Caudron played 5,000 in Taegu in 1996 .
- The official world record for the best tournament game up to 50 points was played on October 9, 2011 in Fehrbach by Eddy Merckx in the German Bundesliga with 50 points in 6 admissions, which results in an average of 8.333 .
- Dick Jaspers played the official world record for the best tournament game up to 40 points on January 22, 2018 in Magdeburg in the German Bundesliga with 40 points in 4 recordings, which results in an average of 10,000 .
- The world record with a general average of 2,790 is held by Frédéric Caudron . Installed at the Belgian GP in Dampremy 2016.
- The world record in the highest series stands at 28 points, held by Jun'ichi Komori (1993), Raymond Ceulemans (1998), Roland Forthomme (2012) and Frédéric Caudron (2013). Komori, Ceulemans and Forthomme scored the series in the Dutch honor division and Caudron at the European Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel .
- The tournament record in the top series has been 19 points since 2015 , set by the Egyptian Sameh Sidhom and set in 2018 by the Dane Tonny Carlsen in Cairo.
Tournament record development
In the set system, the best individual average (ED) is only rated in a game with 3 winning sets. This also applies to the GD (5 games). Therefore, the best GD of Kang Dong-koong at the 2013 World Cup is not counted as a record because Kang only played 2 games.
