The 2003 three-cushion world championship took place in Valladolid ( Spain ) from November 5th to 8th . After 48 years it was again a three-cushion World Cup in Spain.

history

The world championship was held for the first time with 48 participants. With Semih Saygıner a Turk became world champion for the first time. In his preliminary group D he was only able to secure the round of 16 in the last game with a hard-fought 2-0 set win. From the round of 16 he showed his class and secured the title with a world class performance. For the first time, Durk Hee-hwang, a player from the new three-cushion superpower Korea, qualified for the quarter-finals.

mode

The tournament was played with 48 participants. In the group games, two sets of 15 points were used to win. From the round of 16 onwards there were three sets of wins per game. Third place was no longer played out.
