Nikos Polychronopoulos (born March 24, 1978 in Athens ) is a professional Greek carambola player .
Personal
The only child Polychronopoulos was born in Colonos , a suburb of Athens, approx. 2 km from the center. The son of a port captain came into contact with billiards for the first time in a café in Antwerp while on vacation. In his youth Nikos played football ( goalkeeper ), but swimming , basketball and running are also among his hobbies . That creates a balance for him to play billiards. He sees himself as an all-round athlete.
Unlike z. B. Holland, Belgium, France, Germany or Spain, Greece is not a “billiard nation”. There are no leagues or competitions, which is why Polychronopoulos earns his living as a manager in his own billiard room with two employees. Today he lives with his wife Vasso Tatsi, whom he married on October 17, 2009, in Ilioupoulis, near the mountains, 10 km southeast of central Athens. During his tournament trips she represents him as a club manager. He is said to have a photographic memory .
Polychronopoulos is largely self-taught , the father was his first and only coach . Its beginnings lie in the free game and in Cadre 47/2 . Since the 1990s he has only played three cushion and, together with his compatriot Filipos Kasidokostas, is the spearhead of Greek billiards. With him he finished second behind Turkey ( Semih Saygıner / Tayfun Taşdemir ) at the three-cushion world championship for national teams in Viersen .
On March 17, 2013 he finished second in the Barrage Open in Athens. In the final he was defeated by Kasidokostas 27:40.
