Dion Nelin (born August 28, 1976 ) is a Danish carambola player and European and world three-cushion champion .

Career

Internationally, the only 17-year-old Nelin first drew attention to himself as junior vice European champion in 1993 in front of a home crowd in Aalborg . The year before, he set the still valid (as of August 2019) record in the individual average (ED) of 3,000 at the EM . After two more silver medals, he was able to secure the gold medal in the final against the Austrian Arnim Kahofer in 1996 . After his junior career, he won silver at the European Championships in 1999 and the three-cushion world championship in 2002 . In the same year he also became Danish champion.

After a nine-year absence from the domestic championships, he won them straight away in January 2018 and equalized Peter Thögersen's Danish record with his eighth individual title. In the final he beat defending champion Allan Schröder in 33 shots and a top series (HS) of 16 with 50:41.

At the Verhoeven Open 2019 he played his best individual average (ED) to date of 8.333 (25 points in 3 recordings) against the American Christian Portillo , which is also a tournament record in New York (as of August 2019) . He made it to the quarter-finals and finished the tournament in fifth place in the overall ranking of 102 players.

Together with the Dutchman Dick Jaspers he played for 1. BC Magdeburg in 1950 in the 1. Bundesliga and became German champion in 2019.

At the Danish three-cushion championship in January 2020, Nelin finished third behind the winner Thomas Andersen and finalist Brian Knudsen, together with Jacob Haack-Sörensen.
