Frédéric Caudron (born January 27, 1968 in Mons , Belgium ) is a Belgian carom player and multiple world champion.
Career
Beginnings and general
As the son of a father who was enthusiastic about billiards, he started playing billiards at a very early age and won his first tournaments with the Belgian youth team at the age of 10. At the age of 18 he played in all disciplines in the highest classes and at world level. In 1987 he won his first title as European youth champion in Cadre 47/2 - in 1990 the first European Championship title followed in a cover , in 1991 the first World Cup title (Cadre 71/2) and in 1994 the first national three- cushion title.
Since 1990 there have been innumerable national and international tournament victories and titles and his GDs in particular define Frédéric Caudron as one of the best and most versatile carom players in the world. He is continuing the tradition of top Belgian players that began with René Vingerhoedt in the 1940s and was continued by Raymond Ceulemans in the 1960s.
The 2 titans of three-cushion billiards
An extraordinary individual duel took place from June 27 to 30, 2012 in Marxuquera, Spain, at the invitation match "The 2 titans of three-cushion billiards" between Caudron (world number one 2012) and the reigning world champion Dick Jaspers . Only these two players were invited. The game was set at a distance of 600 points, these were played in ten sessions of 60 points each. The shot clock was set to 40 seconds, with an extension of 1 × 40 seconds per session. Caudron dominated the game from the start and was able to expand his lead over the course of the match. The best session was the seventh in which he in 41 minutes in seven recordings played 51 points. In the end he prevailed against the Dutchman with 600: 501 points and took home the winner's bonus of € 10,000, Jaspers still got € 5,000 for his efforts. The GD of the players was 2.189 for Caudron and 1.835 for Jaspers.
2012/13 season
After Caudron held first place in the world rankings for a long time, he had to give it back to the old master Torbjörn Blomdahl from Sweden after the three-cushion World Cup 2012/2 in Suwon, South Korea , as he had previously won the tournament in Lommel (super prestige, second behind Eddy Merckx ) and the World Cup (joint third with the Italian Marco Zanetti ) could not complete as successfully as it would have been necessary to keep the world rankings.
Together with Eddy Leppens he plays for the Belgian club BC De Goeie Queue, among others . In Germany he competes in the 1st Bundesliga with BC 1921 Elversberg .
At the Belgian championship from January 6 to 13, 2013 in Blankenberge , he secured three of the six titles to be awarded as favorites. In Cadre 47/1 and 71/2, as well as cover Caudron was successful, in the supreme discipline three cushion he had to admit defeat in the semifinals eddy leppens. The title then went to Roland Forthomme in a dramatic game with two extensions , who also set the world record with a series of 28 and now holds it together with his compatriot Raymond Ceulemans and Junichi Komori from Japan.
On March 17, 2013 he was in the final of the Lausanne Billard Masters (LBM) and played there against Marco Zanetti. He lost 40:33. Just a week later, the two players faced each other again in a final, this time at the AGIPI Billiard Masters . This time too he did not succeed in beating the Bolzano man. He lost to his colleague from BC AGIPI Courbevoie with 50:40 points. At the European Championships in April, he met Marco Zanetti for the third time in a row and suffered a third defeat, but this time in the semi-finals. For this he was able to score points after the defeat in the three-cushion cover and did a hat trick .
From 2013/14
In 2014 he only got third place with Daniel Sánchez from Spain after losing in the semi-finals to Martin Horn at the LBM . In 2016 he was in the final again, this time he had to admit defeat to the Spaniard. In the semifinals he had previously been successful against Zanetti.
UMB lock 2019
Caudron signed a contract with the newly formed Professional Billiards Association (of Korea) PBA in spring 2019 . Its sponsor, Kimchi Queues, is a co-founder and owner of the association. Since the PBA is not a member of the UMB, players who take part in PBA tournaments are banned from participating in the tournament for one year, up to a maximum of three years. This ended his UMB season at the end of the 2018/19 season. He then left the UMB.
Season 2019/20 (PBA)
On September 15th, Caudron celebrated his first victory at the PBA Tour (TS Shampoo Tournament) after an early elimination in previous tournaments. He is in second place with € 81,000 winners, just behind the Greek Filipos Kasidokostas with € 87,000. However, the checks are apparently not paid out, but offset against the agreed guarantee amount.
