The 1997 binding world championship was the 16th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from February 13th to 16th, 1997 in Vienna . It was the first binding world championship in Austria.
history
63 years after the first binding world championship, Martin Horn became the first German world champion. After a few good placements by German players since 1983, the 26-year-old from Essen had the big hit. After the 74: 150 defeat in eight matches in the group stage against the Dutchman Jos Bongers , where he was already qualified for the semi-finals, he won his two knockout games safely. The success was crowned by the third place of Wolfgang Zenkner . The Frenchman Francis Connesson , who became vice world champion in the cover for the third time, was unhappy .
mode
The game was played in two groups of six, in which the two group best qualified for the semi-finals. All places were played out. The game was played up to 150 points.

Due to the decreased international interest, the 2014 World Cup will probably have been the last.
