Xavier Gretillat (born April 18, 1973 ) is a Swiss carambola player . He plays the classic disciplines free game , cadre , binding and three-cushion as well as pentathlon (pentathlon), a combination of the disciplines. He is the author of several specialist books ( e-books ) on carom billiards.

biography

At the age of 13, Gretillat began playing billiards in the summer of 1986. He started playing once or twice a week at the billiards club in Prilly . In 1988 the club was flooded after a water pipe exploded and the playing facilities were destroyed. He joined the “Club de Lausanne”, today “Académie Lausannoise de Billard” (ALB). At the end of 1988 he played in the Swiss team championship for the first time. A year later he began training (until 1992) and continued training on the side. After the first successes and good general averages (GD) on tournament billiards (small table) and half- match billiards , Gretillat switched to the large table ( match billiards ) in 1990 . In order to continue working on his billiards career, he took a part-time job after completing his apprenticeship, which he kept until 1999. Apart from a brief internship at Francis Connesson in 1988, he is self-taught . In 1992 he took part with the Swiss national team in a training camp run by the German trainer Klaus Hose from Bochum.

In 1994 the head of the national executive gave him the opportunity to buy the two pool tables at the Magglingen sports center . One of the tables went to Andreas Efler . In 1995 Gretillat found a studio and now had the opportunity to set up a pool table and to be independent of the ALB during training. After differences of opinion with the club, he left it and played for the next three years for the "Club de Sierre", with which he won several championships, but then returned to his old club.

In addition to five European championships, Gretillat had won a total of 55 Swiss championships by 2019, making it the most successful player in Switzerland.
