The DBC Bochum 1926 ( D ahlhausener B illard C lub) is a billiards club ( Karambolage ), which was founded on February 25, 1926 in the local Becker under the name "Unter uns". The DBC has played in the Bundesliga since 1971, making it one of the oldest billiards clubs in Germany. With 27 German championship titles in collision, the club is also one of the most successful.

history

From the founding to the start of the war, the club played the game more on the level of social gathering than as a tournament sport.

It was not until 1950 that organized gaming began in the “Otto Hose” restaurant (named after the grandfather of the Bochum billiard idol Klaus Hose ). It was there that Klaus Hose began his career as a 16-year-old in 1958. After all, he had been able to practice there secretly as a child. As a 17-year-old he was in the finals of the highest class, where he beat the favored older "longball players" with his "American gang series". These successes gave billiards a boost in popularity and they spoke of the "Dahlhausen talent factory". In addition to pants, Wolfgang Fischer and Paul Kimmeskamp also achieved considerable success. In 1960 Karl-Heinz Sonneborn from Weitmar joined the company. He set the course for a successful sporting future.

One after the other, the young team rose from the district league to the regional league and the Westphalian Oberliga and was able to secure the title of Westphalia champion straight away. In 1963 the DBC took part in the German team championship in Gelsenkirchen for the first time . They competed against Saarbrücken (with world champion August Tiedtke ), Berlin (the “Lion's Cave” with Dieter Müller ) and Duisburg and became German champions for the first time in the club's history. In the following two years they first confirmed the title in Berlin and then, as a “home game”, in Bochum.

In 1967 Klaus Hose won the title in the individual championship for the club for the first time. Proud of the sporting achievements, the then mayor Fritz Claus praised the players as a figurehead for the city and suggested that the club be given its current name.

It was also pants that brought the European title in the free game from Italy to Bochum in 1970 .

Over time, tables were bought and moved several times. Not only lack of space were decisive, one also didn't always want to be dependent on the benevolence of the hosts. Finally, the club moved into its current venue in the billiard center in Weitmar. From 1975 to 1985 the DBC was able to win the title of German Bundesliga champions six times through Bochum players alone .

A lack of sponsorship money and the associated departure of the world-class player Klaus Hose in 1982 brought the club into a sporty tailspin. He struggled to stay in the top league. Only with the newcomers of the young carom talents Fabian Blondeel and Volker Baten was the club able to catch up and find its way back to old strength. Klaus Hose again played a major role in this development. He had been the national trainer of the German Billard Association (DBB) (now the German Billard Union (DBU)) for ten years now and, if necessary, also trained the talents at home at his own table.

Other successful players in recent years are Thomas Nockemann and Ludger Havlik. Nockemann has already broken the previous record of Hose with eight titles in the free game .

In the 1970s, the DBC hosted the German Championships 7 times, which were also held in Bochum.

On April 7, 2013, Bochum was runner-up in the European team championship in the series game. In the final in Soissons , France they were defeated by Etikon from Belgium 5-1. While Thomas Nockemann was able to play a draw (250: 250 in 4 shots) against Patrik Niessen in cadre 71/2, Fabian Blondeel in the cover lost 71: 150 in 11 shots against Jean Paul de Bruijn and Ludger Havlik against Henri Tilleman in cadre 47 / 2 clear with 0: 300 in 1 shot.
