history
After a ten-year break, another binding world championship took place. In Elda, Spain, the Dutchman Jean Paul de Bruijn won the unbeaten title for the first time in front of the Belgian Frédéric Caudron . Since de Bruijn had achieved all tournament best performances, the title was well deserved. For the first time there were two third-place winners: Eddy Leppens and Jos Bongers . The defending champion from 1997 Martin Horn was only sixth.
mode
The game was played in four preliminary round groups of four players each. The two best in the group qualified for the second group stage. Then the two best in the group qualified for the semi-finals. The two winners played the final. The game was played up to 150 points.

Due to the decreased international interest, the 2014 World Cup will probably have been the last.
