The Confederación Panamericana de Billar (CPB) is the American umbrella organization for billiards founded in 1988 and is affiliated to the Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) and World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA). It is based in Guatemala . The predecessor associations were called Confederación Suramericana de Billar (CSB, 1954) and Confederación Latinoamericana de Billar (CLB, 1977).
She is responsible for organizing the international tournaments held in America. The CPB currently has 21 members who are responsible for the organization at the respective national level (state championships, etc.).
history
Until the post-war period there were no continental associations for the organization of tournaments, etc. This task was taken over by the then French-dominated world association Union Internationale des Fédérations des Amateurs de Billard (UIFAB). Just like the European national associations, they felt patronized and “remote-controlled”, especially in South America. The South American national associations of Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Chile joined forces in Buenos Aires in 1954 to form the “Confederación Suramericana de Billar” (CSB). On June 1, 1954, the CSB was a founding member of the Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB). In 1977, the name "Confederación Latinoamericana de Billar" (CLB) was amended in November he set up in Mexico his first continental competition in three band from. But championships in the free game and cadre were also organized. In Uruguay and Argentina the "Casín" - or "Loque" billiards became more and more popular, later it was renamed Cinco Quillas (5-cone billiards) and tournaments were organized. So far, the USA and Canada have not been part of the (semi-) continental association. At the suggestion and initiative of Patricio Cevallos from Ecuador, they wanted to change this and set up a single umbrella organization for America. On September 13, 1988, a general assembly was called in Quito , Ecuador and the Confederación Panamericana de Billar (CPB) was founded. The following nations were represented at the founding assembly:
- Argentina
- Ecuador
- Brazil
- Peru
- Uruguay
- Mexico
- Chile
- Colombia
- Brazil
- Venezuela
- Costa Rica
- Panama
- Nicaragua
Under the presidency of Victor Robayo from Venezuela, the founding law and statutes of the CPB were created in Panama City in 1999 and the organization was legally registered. In 2000, the CPB in Las Vegas joined the World Pool Billiards Association (WPBA). With Aruba , the Netherlands Antilles , Puerto Rico and Honduras , the number of members grew to 17.
