The Federação Portuguesa de Bilhar ( FPB ) is the umbrella organization for billiards in Portugal . It is based in the Lisbon municipality of São João de Deus , at 43 Avenida João XXI .

The FPB belongs u. a. the world federations Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) and World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA), and the European associations European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF) and Confédération Européenne de Billard (CEB). In Portugal she is a member of the Confederação do Desporto de Portugal and the Comité Olímpico de Portugal , the National Olympic Committee of Portugal.

A large number of international competitions have taken place in Portugal, most recently the second tournament of the Three Cushion World Cup 2015 in Porto , or the 2015 European pool championship and the 2015 Portugal Open in the Algarve .

history

With the Federação Portuguesa dos Amadores de Bilhar , a first national association for billiards was founded in Porto in 1930 . He hosted the fifth free game world championship in Espinho in 1932 , which was won by the Spaniard Juan Butrón .

In 1936 the Associação Portuguesa de Bilhar was founded in Lisbon , which later gave itself its current name. The founding of the umbrella organization happened primarily on the initiative of the wealthy Portuguese billiard player Alfredo Ferraz, who previously participated in international competitions through the Spanish association, before the first association was founded in Portugal in 1930. Ferraz is considered the first Portuguese winner of a single world championship title (winner of the free Game World Championship 1939 in Lausanne).

In 1958 the FPB was one of the founding members of the European association CEB and the world association UMB a year later.

activities

The association divides its activities into five branches:

The FPB organizes a variety of championships and cup competitions, both for clubs and for individual players, and for both women and men.

Finances

FPB closed the 2014 financial year with a loss of € -34,577.53, after € -67,626.05 in the previous year. The income totaling € 219,480.48 was offset by expenses totaling € 254,058.01. Most of the income (€ 147,476.95) came from association activities, € 67,000 was public grants.

The situation of the FPB thus corresponds to the generally difficult situation of most Portuguese sports associations, which are striving for increasing income and increased cost control with falling public subsidies, in an economic environment that continues to be difficult. The reason is the government's rigid austerity policy and the tense overall economic situation in Portugal as a result of the euro crisis .
