The Fédération Française de Billard (FFB) is the French national association for billiards. It reports directly to the Confédération Européenne de Billard (CEB). The FFB is responsible for national issues and the organization of national championships in the disciplines of carom , snooker and pool .
history
1903 to 1913
The FFB was founded in 1903 by Frantz Reichel and Théodore Vienne . A few months earlier, they had already founded the Fédération des Sociétés Françaises des Amateurs de Billard (FSFAB), but left it after three days due to disputes over the rules and the definition of the amateur status of players. For a decade both associations existed in parallel, staging their own world championships and both excluded players from the other association from participating in "their" World Cup.
1913 to 1923
After they were ready to talk, the disputes could be settled and they merged into the newly founded "Fédération Francaise des Amateurs de Billard" (FFAB). According to the agreements made at that time, only the FFB World Championships were dubbed the “official World Championships”, although the FSFAB united the stronger players and from 1909 onwards most of the nations were represented. In contrast to the FFB, it also entered into collaborations with other associations and always tried to establish a world association. The reason given for this was the registration of the name “Championat du Monde” (World Championship) in French courts, and the FFB thus owned the naming rights. Only de Drée was still actively represented by the FSFAB on the board of the new association, Vienne was "only inactive honorary president", Reichel was no longer represented. The FFAB strived for internationalization, towards a world association, but the First World War destroyed these plans. It was not until 1923 that the opportunity arose to found a world association, the Fédération Internationale des Amateurs de Billard (FIAB).
1923 to 1956
After the founding of the FIAB, the FFAB was retained as a national association and Alexandre Avé, deputy secretary of the new board, tried to make billiards accessible to everyone after de Drée left. The efforts of previous presidents formed the cornerstone for the FFAB framework, so national and international regulations were adopted and the internationalization of the European and World Championships was established and promoted.
1956 to date
On September 22, 1956, the league delegates called a general assembly. There they decided to change their name again and so the FFAB became the FFB again. At the same time, again because of disputes, this time with the UIFAB and the Fédération Internationale de Billard (FIB), a new European billiards association was founded. One year later this became the Confédération Européenne de Billard (CEB), of which the FFB is one of 15 founding members.
The “Ile de France” league is bringing the “Sport Billard” magazine back to the press after a break of more than ten years.
Timeline
tasks
The main task of the FFB is the organization, promotion and further development of billiards with its various disciplines. In addition, the French state has given it the power of delegation to award national titles, publish the technical rules and select the French athletes to represent France in international competitions. The FFB has issued a code of conduct which, among other things, has forbidden the use of ivory balls to protect endangered species since 1997. It also issues rules for sporting behavior and doping control. The FFB also organizes various competitions and the French championships (in all disciplines). If world, European championships or the three-cushion world cup take place in France, the FFB is the main organizer and co-organizer alongside the UMB or CEB.
