The International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) is the world umbrella organization for amateurs in the snooker and English billiards variants . The association was founded in 1971 as the World Billiards & Snooker Council and renamed in 1973. The president is Mubarak Al-Khayarin . Since May 7, 2013, the head office is in Dubai , United Arab Emirates .
In addition to the competing World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), the IBSF is a snooker representative of the World Confederation of Billiard Sports (WCBS). The formation of a joint World Snooker Federation within the WCBS between 1992 and 2004 ultimately failed.
goals and tasks
The IBSF coordinates and markets English billiards and snooker on an amateur level. In addition, it decides on the conditions, procedure, dates and venues for the following sports events:
- IBSF Men's Snooker World Championships
- IBSF U16 Boys' World Snooker Championships
- IBSF U18 World Snooker Championships for men
- IBSF U21 Men's World Snooker Championships
- IBSF Senior Men's World Snooker Championships
- IBSF 6 Men's Red Snooker World Championships
- IBSF World Snooker Championships for women
- IBSF U16 Girls' World Snooker Championships
- IBSF U18 Women's World Snooker Championships
- IBSF U21 Women's World Snooker Championships
- IBSF Senior Women's World Snooker Championships
- IBSF 6 Women's Red Snooker World Championships
- IBSF World Snooker Team Cup (men, women and seniors)
- IBSF Men's English Billiards World Championships
- IBSF Women's English Billiards World Championships
- IBSF Junior English Billiards World Championships
These tournaments are usually held annually by the IBSF. The definition of an amateur is aligned by the IBSF to the world umbrella organization of snooker professionals, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), according to which all players are eligible to participate in IBSF World Championships, provided they are not participants in the Snooker Main Tour in the relevant season are.
