The Federação Portuguesa de Basebol e Softbol ( FPBS ) is the umbrella organization for baseball and softball in Portugal . The FPBS is based in Abrantes , where it was founded in 1996. Sandra Monteiro has been president since 2004.

The FPBS is a member of the World Baseball Association and thus the World Baseball and Softball Association , as well as the European Baseball Association . In Portugal it belongs u. a. the umbrella organization Confederação do Desporto de Portugal and the Comité Olímpico de Portugal , the National Olympic Committee of Portugal.

In addition, the FPBS maintains a strategic partnership with the sports university in Rio Maior , the Escola Superior de Desporto de Rio Maior , and a further education project for baseball coaches with the Coaching Association of Canada , the coaching association of the Canadian baseball association Baseball Canada .

The most important national competitions of the FPBS include the national championship, the Campeonato Nacional de Baseball , and the national cup, the Taça de Portugal em baseball . In 2008 , the White Sharks from Almada won the men's double for the first time. The baseball department of the Académica de Coimbra club was also successful several times, most recently when it won the cup in 2009.

From July 9th to 12th, 2008, the FPBS hosted the European Championship Qualifier , a qualifying tournament for the 2010 European Baseball Championship . Ireland, Greece, Russia and Portugal competed in Abrantes, and Greece qualified for the European Championship as the tournament winner.

The Portuguese national baseball team has not yet qualified for any European baseball or baseball world championships, and no Portuguese club has so far achieved success in the CEB European Cup .
