The 2010 European Baseball Championship was the 31st European Baseball Championship . The final round took place from July 23 to August 1, 2010 in Stuttgart , Heidenheim an der Brenz and Neuenburg am Rhein . The Netherlands competed in the European Championship as defending champions .
The four best-placed teams in the 2010 European Baseball Championship qualified directly for the 2011 World Baseball Championship .
Venues
With the European baseball championship 2010, a European baseball championship took place in Germany for the fourth time after 1957 , 1969 and 2001 . After the last European Championship held in Germany with the venues Bonn , Cologne and Solingen took place in the western part of Germany, the European Championship 2010 was awarded to southern Germany with the original venues Stuttgart, Heidenheim and Tübingen . Tübingen was later replaced by Neuchâtel.
Venues during the final round were the “Reds Ballpark am Schnarrenberg” of the Stuttgart Reds , the “New Heideköpfe Ballpark” of the German baseball champions 2009 Heidenheim Heideköpfe and the “Atomics Baseball Park” of the Neuchâtel Atomics .
The temporarily increased stadium in Stuttgart was the main venue, where three games a day were played during the preliminary round and two games a day during the main round. In Heidenheim an der Brenz two games were played a day during the preliminary round and one game a day during the main round. In Neuenburg am Rhein there was one game every day during the preliminary round.
Attendees
Twelve teams have qualified for the 30th European Baseball Championship. The seven best teams in the 2007 European Championship were automatically qualified, including the German national baseball team , which came fourth in 2007. In 2008 there were five qualifying tournaments, the winners of which bought tickets for the European Championship: Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Greece and the Ukraine. Austria came second and Switzerland third in Group 5, behind Belgium.
