The Stuttgart Reds are the baseball and softball department of the Turnverein Cannstatt 1846 e. V. The first men's team of the Reds has been competing in the 1st Bundesliga South since 2012 .
history
The Stuttgart Reds began in 1986 as a baseball department in the major Stuttgart club SV Feuerbach . Jan van den Berg becomes the first department head.
The first men's baseball team became champions in the state league of Baden-Württemberg in 1988 and rose to the second division after a victorious playoff against the Bavarian champions Ingolstadt. However, the baseball team is disbanded after only one year in the 2nd Bundesliga.
Because of poor training conditions, the baseball department moved to TuS Stuttgart in Stuttgart-Degerloch in 1992. A joint department was formed with the American football department, the Stuttgart Scorpions . Robert Kupka takes over the chairmanship as head of the baseball and softball division.
In 1994, the baseball department moved to their final home, TV Cannstatt, due to better competition conditions.
The 1st women's team took 7th place at the German Championships in 1995. The men's softball players became German cup winners and German runners-up. The successful men's softball players received the bronze sports plaque from the city of Stuttgart.
In 1996 Christoph Manske became the new 1st Chairman of the Baseball & Softball Department. The 1st men's baseball team was runner-up in Baden-Württemberg and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. The 1st women's team took 4th place at the South German Championships.
In 1997 the 1st men's baseball team played their first season in the 2nd Bundesliga.
Due to the high Bundesliga requirements and penalties for "unfit for competition conditions", the Reds said goodbye to the Bundesliga after the end of the 1998 season. The 1st men's team had to restart in the Baden-Württemberg regional league after withdrawing from the 2nd Bundesliga.
In 2004, after a two-year construction period, the completely new ball park on Schnarrenberg was opened.
In 2007, the first men's team made it to the regional league.
In 2009 the German Youth Championship (U15) was held at the Reds Ballpark.
In 2010 the Stuttgart Reds' ball park was the main venue for the 2010 European baseball championship . For this major event, the stadium was expanded and temporarily expanded.
In 2013 the Stuttgart Reds hosted the German Championship for Schoolchildren (U12).
In 2014, the first men's team celebrated their greatest success to date by reaching the playoff semi-finals.
In 2016, the two women's teams and four other Reds teams will get their own place and the U12 team wins the German championship for the second time.
On June 24, 2017, the baseball academy was officially opened in the Bundesliga match against the Regensburg legionaries .
In September / October 2019, the construction of a new stadium is to begin, which will offer space for around 600 spectators and should be completed at the beginning of the 2020 season.
