The Vermins Base- & Softballclub e. V. is a non-profit sports club from Wesseling in the Rhineland . The club maintains two men's and two women's teams as well as several junior and student teams in the two sports baseball and softball . The Vermins women's softball team has been playing in the first-class softball league since 1999 , and the softball juniors also won the first ever German junior championship in Mannheim in 2006.

history

The idea of founding a baseball club in Wesseling arose in 1989. Five friends who were fascinated by baseball bought baseball gloves, balls and bats and thus began to get to know the sport. The first training sessions took place on a public sports field at Wesselinger Entenfang and didn't have much to do with real baseball. The rules and techniques were not really known to any of the founders at the time, it was only through videos and insight into the Brockhaus that the first foundations for targeted training were worked out . Little by little, more and more fans of the US national sport came to the freely organized training units, so that a team capable of playing was quickly put together.

In 1990 it was decided to officially found the association . The name Vermins goes back to a computer enthusiastic member from the environment of the founders. He used the pseudonym Vermin , which means vermin for his activities .

The Vermins celebrated their first successes shortly after they were founded. In October 1991, the men's baseball team managed to end the season as first in the national league. Today the Vermins are a recognized player in German base and softball as well as in the region with over 120 members and seven teams.

In the 2019 Bundesliga baseball season , the first men's baseball team in the Vermins will play in the first- class Bundesliga baseball for the first time .

The Vermins home game and training facility is located in the west of the Berzdorf district of Wesselingen .
