The Heidenheim Heideköpfe are the baseball and softball division of the Heidenheimer Sportbund . The first men's team of the Heideköpfe competes in the baseball Bundesliga south. In 2009 they won their first championship with a 3-2 win against the Mannheim Tornados in the final of the 2009 German championship. With the name Heideköpfe , the team refers to the Heidenheim city ​​arms , which shows a man's head.

history

The baseball department within the Heidenheimer SB was founded in August 1992. Even at this point in time, the current club name was used. The team has been taking part in matches since 1993 and within eight years marched from the Baden-Württemberg district league to the 1st Bundesliga South, of which they have been a member since 2000.

In 2002 and from 2006 to 2011 the team reached the playoffs for the German baseball championship. In 2008 , the regular season was finished first for the first time, but the team was defeated in the semi-finals by the eventual master Buchbinder Legionnaires from Regensburg. In 2009 the Heideköpfe reached the final series of the German baseball championship for the first time and won their first championship there after five games with 3-2 wins against the Mannheim Tornados .

In June 2010 the Heideköpf were the first German team to qualify for the European Champion Cup after finishing second in their group in the 2010 CEB European Cup . At the European Champion Cup Final Four 2010 , the team prevailed in the semifinals with 4-1 against Telemarket Rimini (ITA). The final game on September 26, 2010 in Barcelona was lost to Fortitudo Bologna (ITA) in the extra inning, i.e. after extra time, (after 9 innings 1-1) with just 1-2.

In 2017, the Heidenheim Heideköpfe won both the title of southern champion and their third championship title in the Bundesliga baseball in the fifth game against the Bonn Capitals . In the following season of 2018, the Heideköpfe were again champions of the southern division. With three victories in a row they prevailed against the Solingen Alligators in the semifinals and thus moved into the final of the Bundesliga baseball again. In the CEB Cup 2019, Heidenheim Heideköpfe achieved first place and thus brought back the second German starting place in the CEB European Cup for 2020. They were also able to win the German championship in 2019 with a 3-2 victory in the Best of 5 series against the Bonn Capitals.
