Sascha Lutz

Sascha Lutz (born October 29, 1983 in Friedberg , Hessen ) is a German baseball player who plays as an outfielder for Heidenheim Heideköpf . Before that he was active for the Mainz Athletics , the Mannheim Tornados and the Stuttgart Reds , among others . He also played for the German national baseball team . His brother Donald Lutz was the first major league baseball player to grow up in Germany .

Life

Lutz was born in Friedberg as the son of an Afro-American US soldier and a German mother. After his parents divorced, he grew up with his brother Donald Lutz in Friedberg.

Career

2007-2008: Mainz Athletics

In the 2007 season Sascha Lutz played for the Mainz Athletics and won the German baseball championship with them. In the 2017 season he achieved a batting average of .456, an on-base percentage of .556 and a slugging percentage of .595. In the same year he joined the German national baseball team and played for them in the 2007 European baseball championship ( AVG / OBP / SLG : .419 / .486 / .548). Also in the following season he was active for the athletics.

2009–2012: Mannheim Tornados

From 2009 to 2012 Lutz played in the Mannheim Tornados . There he led the league in runs and outfield assists in the 2009 season . He was also among the top five players in the league at the Walks and Stolen Bases .

2013: Stuttgart Reds

In the 2013 season Sascha Lutz played for the Stuttgart Reds , where he achieved a batting average of .410 (second best in the baseball Bundesliga 2013 ), an on-base percentage of .463, a slugging percentage of 539 and 23 home runs .

2014 – today: Heidenheim Heideköpfe

Sascha Lutz has been active for Heidenheim Heideköpfe since the 2014 season , with whom he won the German baseball championship in 2015 and 2017 . In the 2015 season he had the third best batting average in the league (.436). In the same season he entered the CEB European Cup with the heather heads . In 2017 he played for the German national baseball team in the qualifying round for the 2017 World Baseball Classic . After the 2018 season, Lutz announced that he would end his career with Heidenheim Heideköpf and instead want to return to the Mannheim Tornados as a player- coach.
