European baseball championship 2019

The Baseball Championship in 2019 was the 35th European championship in baseball . It was held from September 7th to 15th in Bonn and Solingen . A total of twelve national teams took part in the tournament and played the title in a group stage and a subsequent final round. The 2019 Baseball European Championship also represented a qualifying round for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo .

The winner of the European baseball championship in 2016 and thus the defending champion was the Netherlands , who defended their title again.

Attendees

A total of 12 teams qualified for the tournament. On the one hand the ten best-placed teams of the EM 2016 and on the other hand the winners of the two "B" pool tournaments, Austria and Israel. The following teams were qualified and divided into groups A and B as shown:

Venues

The Rheinaue baseball stadium , the main venue for the 2019 European Baseball Championship.

The host of the 2019 Baseball EM were the Bonn Capitals and the Solingen Alligators . The main venue was the Rheinaue baseball stadium in Bonn , which was equipped with a new backstop and floodlights for this purpose in 2018 for 1.9 million euros . 32 of the total of 49 games were to take place here, including the semi-finals and the final as well as the game for 5th and 3rd place.

The Weyersberg baseball park , the Solingen Alligators' stadium, served as a second venue. This was also extensively renovated for the event. A total of 17 of the 49 games should take place here, including a quarter-final game.

Due to a scheduling error, Israel was in the second semi-finals home team, although Italy was better placed in the preliminary round.

In the game plan of the relegation round there was a mistake, instead of crosses A5-B6 and B5-A6 (which would have been correct) in the first two games the group fifth played against each other and the group sixth against each other.

Final score

The baseball EM 2019 is also a qualifying round for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo . The teams in places 1 to 5 qualify for a Qlympia qualification tournament with the African champions South Africa following the EM from September 18 to 22, 2019 in Italy. A place for the Olympic baseball tournament will be played there. Another team will take part in a final qualifying tournament with teams from all continental associations. The teams in places 11 and 12 are relegated to the B pool.
