The 2011 baseball world championship was the 39th edition of the baseball world championship and took place from October 1st to 15th, 2011 in Panama . The four venues were Aguadulce , Chitré , Panama City and Santiago . A total of 16 teams took part in the tournament.

The team from the Netherlands became world champions for the first time and beat record champions Cuba 2-1 in the final . The Netherlands were the second European world champions since the Amateur World Series of 1938, which was won by Great Britain .

Phase 1

Phase 1 of the world championship took place from October 1st to October 10th 2011 and was carried out in two groups. The four best teams in both groups qualified for the next round.

Phase 2

Phase 2 took place from October 11th to 14th, 2011. In the second phase, each qualified team plays against each of the qualified teams from the other group. The two best teams in the overall ranking after the second phase qualify for the finals.

Group 3

Group 3 games were played in all four cities. The October 11th games were played in Chitré and Santiago, October 12th in Aguadulce and Santiago, and October 14th in Aguadulce and Panama City.
