The Federação Portuguesa de Orientação (abbreviated FPO ) is the national orienteering association of Portugal .

history

Orienteering has been established in Portugal since 1973 with the first Campeonato das Forças Armadas de Mafra , the championship of the armed forces in Mafra . After first civilian orienteering from 1980 1981 appeared with the "Touring Açoteias / Albufeira - Algarve - Portugal" the first civilian orienteering map .

In 1987 the Associação Portuguesa de Orientação (APORT) was founded, the first Portuguese orienteering association. From it emerged the FPO, newly founded in 1990, which became a member of the IOF and first took part in the 1991 World Cup in Czechoslovakia . In 1999 65 clubs were already members of the FPO.

Competitions

The FPO organizes national competitions in continental Portugal and Madeira , in various disciplines, including orientation mountain bike competitions.

The FPO regularly takes part in international competitions and organizes them itself, such as the World Championship (MTB WOC) in 2010.
