The Irish Orienteering Association ( English Irish Orienteering Association, IOA , Irish Cumann na hÉireann Treodóireacht, CTÉ ) is the national Orienteering Association of Ireland . He has been a full member of the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) since 1975 .

It includes all clubs in the Republic of Ireland, while in Northern Ireland the Northern Ireland Orienteering Association is subordinate to the British Orienteering Association .

history

Orienteering activities in Ireland began in the early 1970s. In 1975 the first national championships took place and the IOA was accepted into the world association IOF.

In 1998, with the World Cup kick-off in Killarney, an internationally significant competition took place in Ireland for the first and only time.

The IOA publishes The Irish Runner (TIO) , first published in September 1982 . Before that, between 1977 and 1982, the club's magazine Leinster Orienteering Clubs newsletter informed about the development of the sport in Ireland.

Awards

The association awards the following three prizes each year:

  • the Silva Trophy for the further development of orienteering,
  • the Mactire Trophy for an achievement in an orienteering competition,
  • and the Silva Award for organizing an orienteering competition.
