history
The Portuguese cycling association FPC was founded on December 14, 1899 as União Velocipédica Portuguesa (UVP); since 1944 the association has been called UVP-FPC. The founding president was Bernardo Homem Machado , Conde de Caria. In 1901 the first general meeting of delegates took place. At this time, cycling in Portugal took place almost exclusively on cycle tracks ; the first opened in Algés in 1888 , and many others followed. The first cycling clubs were departments of well-known football clubs such as Benfica Lisbon .
Today the association has its permanent seat in Lisbon in a building made available to it by the city.
