Algés is a Portuguese town and municipality ( Freguesia ) that belongs to the district of Oeiras . The urban area covers 2 km² and the population is 22,492 people (as of June 30, 2011), which corresponds to a population density of 11,378 inhabitants / km².
history
Algés was raised to a small town ( Vila ) on August 16, 1991 and released from Carnaxide on June 11, 1993 .

Sports
The most important local club is Sport Algés e Dafundo, founded in 1915 . His role in the development of swimming, for example through Hermano Patrone , and judo in Portugal should be mentioned, including the first Olympic medal from a Portuguese judoka ( Nuno Delgado 2000).
With the Confederação do Desporto de Portugal , the country's sports umbrella organization is based here. The Federação Portuguesa de Golfe golf association is also based here.
