Rita Gouveia Blanco (born January 11, 1963 in Algés , Lisbon ) is a Portuguese actress .

Life

Before completing her studies at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (1985), she appeared on stage for the first time in 1983, in Luís Miguel Cintra's production of Jean-Paul Wenzel's Mariana Espera Casamento , at his Teatro da Cornucópia . She returned there again and again for occasional appearances, for example in pieces by David Mamet , Eduarda Dionísio , or later in Rainer Werner Fassbinder's Sangue no Pescoço do Gato ("Blood on the Neck of the Cat", 2005). For her role in Nunca Nada de Ninguém by Luísa Costa Gomes she received the 1991 Theater Prize Prémio Garrett .

She was also on stage for theater productions by João Canijo , first in Crimes do Coração ("Crimes of the heart") by Beth Henley in 1988, and then again and again, for example in Confissões ao Luar ("A Moon for the Misbegotten") by Eugene O'Neill 1994. With her leading roles in Canijo's films, Blanco then became known to a wider public, especially through his TV multi-part Alentejo Sem Lei (1990). She had already received her first attention in the television series A Mala de Cartão (1988), alongside Irene Papas .

In addition to a large number of theater appearances (including 1993 at the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II , 1995 at the Cine-Teatro Monumental and 1997 at the Teatro S. Luiz ), she worked in sitcoms , talk shows , game shows and humorous formats on the television station SIC in the 1990s . She rarely showed her qualities as a versatile and convincing actress, who mostly saw the criticism in her feature film roles in her. According to their own statement, television productions are predominantly "disposable products".

After greatly reduced television activity from the end of the 1990s, she played again in a large number of telenovelas and television series, including since 2007 the successful Conta-me como Foi family saga of the public RTP . This shows, humorous and maneuvering between nostalgia and criticism, a Portugal from the 1960s to the 70s, and its change between the onset of modernity and the Estado Novo regime. In 2007 Blanco was then in front of the camera for the first time for commercials for the supermarket chain Pingo Doce . She received her greatest international attention in 2013, in her leading role in the French-Portuguese surprise hit Portugal, mon amour .

She is one of the most renowned contemporary actresses in Portuguese film and has received several awards, such as the Globo de Ouro for Ganhar a Vida in 2002 , and in 2011 for Sangue do Meu Sangue at the Caminhos do Cinema Português film festival.
