The two sisters Márcia and Ivete live with Márcia's two adult children in the Padre Cruz new housing estate on the outskirts of Lisbon. Daughter Cláudia studies nursing and works at the cash register in a supermarket, Joca works as a petty criminal. Family life changes radically within a week. When Joca tries to cheat the drug dealer for whom he is dealing, he is arrested. Cláudia introduces her mother to a married teacher as a new lover. Márcia, thinking painfully about her own life story, tries to bring this relationship to an end.
