Pingo Doce , [ 'pĩgu' dɔsə ], in German sweet drop , is the second largest supermarket chain in Portugal with over 382 branches . She belongs to the Jerónimo Martins group .

Jeronimo Martins' first store opened in 1792. Later, Pingo Doce was founded in 1980 as a sales line of the Jerónimo Martins Group (JMR). Since 1992, Pingo Doce has been operated in a joint venture by Jerónimo Martins, in which she holds 51% and the Dutch retail chain Ahold 49%.

Jerónimo Martins also bought the Brazilian supermarket chain Sé Supermercados , the Brazilian equivalent of Pingo Doce , in the 1990s . However, this was sold to the Companhia Brasileira de Distribuição / Grupo Pão de Açúcar Sé Supermercados in 2002 , which renamed the stores Pão de Açúcar and CompreBem . From 2008 to 2010, Pingo Doce took over the Feira Nova brand .

In Poland , the group founded Biedronka , the largest food retail chain in the country, since 1997 . The Jerónimo Martins Group also started building local businesses in Colombia in March 2013 through Ara.
