Joaquim Pinto (born June 20, 1957 in Porto ) is a Portuguese film director.

Life

Between 1979 and 1987, Pinto worked as a sound engineer in over 40 film productions under directors such as Manoel de Oliveira , Alain Tanner , João Botelho , António Reis and Margarida Cordeiro , Jorge Silva Melo , Werner Schroeter , João César Monteiro , Paulo Rocha , João Canijo and José Nascimento .

After directing several short films himself, he released his first feature film in 1988 with Uma Pedra No Bolso . With the film Das Tripas Coração (1992) he took part in the competition at the Locarno International Film Festival . His autobiographical documentary E agora? Lembra-me , in which he addresses his infection with HIV and hepatitis C , received several awards in Locarno in 2013.

As a producer, he made three films for television and five feature films, including Memories of the Yellow House and The Divine Comedy by João César Monteiro , which won the Silver Lion at the Venice International Film Festival in 1989 (for Memories of the Yellow House ) and in 1995 the special prize of the Jury (for The Divine Comedy ) won.
