1636: Martin Aichinger is executed
  • 1636 : Martin Aichinger , leader of the Marchland peasant movement , is executed with some of his followers on Linz's main square after his capture in the Battle of Frankenberg .
  • 1685 : James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth, declares himself the illegitimate son of the late ruler Charles II to be King of England , who is ruled by the already crowned king brother James II . The instigated Monmouth Rebellion fails in the Battle of Sedgemoor on July 6 with troops loyal to the king. The captured duke will be executed on July 15th.

  • 1810 : During the funeral march for Prince Christian August , the Swedish statesman Hans Axel von Fersen is trampled to death by angry residents in Stockholm. The population sees him as one of the alleged murderers of the popular heir to the throne. The soldiers present do nothing to protect their riksmarskale from popular anger.
