He started tennis at the age of five. He attended the University of Michigan and was nominated for the All American top pick twice . In 1989 he turned professional. Washington won its first title in Memphis in 1992 . In his career he won a total of four individual titles, his best place in the world rankings he reached in 1993 with position 11.
Washington played between 1993 and 1997 for the US Davis Cup team and played five singles, three of which he won. When he lost 3-2 in 1996 against the Czech Republic in the semi-finals of the world group, he lost both games (against Daniel Vacek and Petr Korda ). At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta he competed for the United States in singles and doubles. With a victory over the Mexican doubles pairing, he reached the second round together with Andre Agassi , where they were eliminated against the South Africans Wayne Ferreira and Marcos Ondruska . The individual ended in the quarterfinals against the later silver medal winner Sergi Bruguera .
Washington ended his career in 1999 due to a protracted knee injury that he sustained in a 1997 Davis Cup game against Gustavo Kuerten . He is married and has two children.
