Daniel Vacek (born April 1, 1971 in Prague , then ČSSR ) is a former Czech tennis player .
Career
Vacek began playing tennis at the age of eleven, encouraged by his father, and attended the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida . He began his professional career in 1990 and was able to win three titles with his doubles partner Vojtěch Flégl in the first year . After he had changed doubles partner several times in the coming years and was also able to contest a few finals, he played with Cyril Suk from 1993 to 1995 , with whom he won five doubles titles. In 1994 he reached his first final as a single player at the ATP tournament in Copenhagen, but had to admit defeat Evgeni Kafelnikow with 6–3, 7–5. In his second individual final in 1995 in Marseille he was defeated again, this time to Boris Becker with 6-7, 6-4, 7-5.
In 1996 he took part in the Summer Olympics in Atlanta . In singles he was eliminated in the second round and reached the quarterfinals in doubles together with Jiří Novák . Although he could not win a title, 1996 was the most successful year of his individual career when he reached number 26 in the tennis world rankings . In the same year then Yevgeny Kafelnikow became his double partner. With him Vacek had his most successful time in tennis. Together they won eight tournaments, including two wins at the French Open in 1996 and 1997, and one win at the US Open in 1997.
As a single player, Vacek reached five finals, none of which he could win. As a doubles player, he won a total of 25 titles in 40 finals.
Private life
After the end of his tennis career, in January 2003 he took over 75% of the shares in the Czech first division club Baník Ostrava , which he held until 2009 and then sold it to the businessman Tomas Petera.
Vacek married his wife Renee on December 3, 1998. The couple has one child.
