Guy Forget (born January 4, 1965 in Casablanca , Morocco ) is a retired French tennis player .

Career

Forget turned professional tennis in 1982 and had his first career high point in 1986 when he won the tournament in Toulouse . In the same year he won the World Team Cup with the French team . In 1986 he also won six double titles, which earned him third place in the double world rankings.

In 1987, the serve and volley player and his compatriot Yannick Noah reached the final in doubles at the French Open .

He had his most successful year as a professional in 1991 when he won six individual titles, including the Paris Indoors and the Masters tournament in Cincinnati . In March 1991 he was listed at number 4 in the individual world rankings. In 1991 he won the Davis Cup with the French team . Together with Henri Leconte they defeated the USA with Pete Sampras 3-1. In the same year, both players were voted France's Sportsman of the Year (“ Champion des champions ”) by the sports newspaper L'Équipe .

In 1996 the left-hander was able to reach the double finals of the French Open again with Jakob Hlasek . He also won the tournament in Marseille . With the French team he won the Davis Cup a second time, this time against Sweden .

In 1997, Guy Forget retired from professional tennis. He won 11 singles and 28 doubles tournaments in his career.

Trainer and functionary

Forget was the captain of the French Davis Cup team from 1998 to 2012 , with which he also won the title in 2001. Forget has been the tournament director of the Paris Masters , an ATP tournament in Paris-Bercy, since 2012 .
