Yannick Noah (born May 18, 1960 in Sedan ) is a former French tennis player and today's pop singer with Cameroonian roots.

Tennis career

His best placement in the ATP world rankings was in 1986 position 3. He won 23 tournaments in singles, including the 1983 French Open . In the same year he was voted France's Sportsman of the Year (“ Champion des champions ”) by the sports newspaper L'Équipe . In 1984 he won the French Open in doubles with Henri Leconte . He led the double world rankings for a total of 19 weeks.

As team leader of the French national tennis team, he won the Davis Cup twice with the men (1991, 1996 and 2017) and once the Fed Cup with the women (1997).

Career as a singer

Noah was particularly successful as a singer with the chansons Aux arbres citoyens , which reached number 1 in the French charts, Saga Africa and Métisse (s) . In 2006 he received a gold record for his album Charango . On July 2, 2005, he performed at Live 8 in Paris.

Others

In addition to his career as a singer, he works as a consultant for the Cameroon national football team . He is also committed to French aid organizations such as Les Restos du Cœur and the Les enfants de la Terre association he founded . He also regularly takes part in the annual Les Enfoirés charity concert , the largest media event in the Francophone world.

In January 2007, the French first division soccer team Paris Saint-Germain signed him as a consultant.

His father Zacharie came from Cameroon and was a professional footballer, his mother Marie-Claire is French and was a teacher. From Noah's first marriage to the Swedish photo model (Miss Sweden 1978) Cecilia Rodhe , his eldest children Joakim and Yéléna come. Joakim Noah is a professional basketball player in the NBA and a French national player. Yéléna Noah works as a photo model.

In 2005 he was voted the most popular French in a poll by the French Sunday newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche . In a poll conducted by the Ifop Institute in January 2010, Noah was voted France's most popular figure for the fifth time in a row.
