Jared Eiseley Palmer (born July 2, 1971 in New York City , New York ) is a retired American tennis player . In his career he achieved two Grand Slam victories in men's doubles and two more in mixed . In 2000 he was world number one in doubles.

Life

Palmer studied at Stanford University , for which he played from 1989 to 1991 as part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and won the All-American Collegiate Champion title in his first year . After completing his studies, he began his professional career.

In his career he won 28 double titles. His greatest successes were victories at the Australian Open in 1995 and Wimbledon in 2001 . He was also in the double finals at Wimbledon in 1999 and at the US Open in 2001. He won his two Grand Slam mixed titles in 2000, with Rennae Stubbs he won the Australian Open and with Arantxa Sánchez Vicario the US Open .

He won his only individual title on the ATP Tour in 1994 on clay at the US Men's Clay Court Championships in Pinehurst. In the same year he was in the final of the tournament in Toulouse , in which he was defeated by Magnus Larsson . This year he also achieved his best individual placement in the tennis world rankings with position 35. His most successful tournaments on the ATP Tour in the doubles competition include Doha , which he won twice, and the tournament in Nottingham , which he won in 2001 and was in the final in the two following years. He won most of his double titles alongside Donald Johnson and Richey Reneberg .

Palmer played for the US Davis Cup team between 1994 and 2001 . He had two wins out of four defeats in the double competition. In 1995 he had his only appearance in singles, in a 5-0 win against Italy he won against Renzo Furlan .
