Daniele Bracciali (born January 10, 1978 in Arezzo ) is a former Italian tennis player .
Career
Bracciali began his career as a professional tennis player in 1995. In 2006 he won his first ATP World tournament. In the final of the clay court tournament in Casablanca he clearly defeated Nicolás Massú 6: 1 and 6: 4. In Grand Slam tournaments , Bracciali won five individual games, four at Wimbledon and one at the Australian Open . He achieved his best performance in 1998 at Wimbledon when he reached the third round there; In 2005 he defeated Ivo Karlović there in the first round in five sets - despite the world record of 51 aces that Karlović set at the time.
In the later years of his career, Bracciali developed into a dual specialist. In 2012 he was the top Italian in the double world rankings. He won six tournaments with five different partners. With his doubles partner Potito Starace , Bracciali reached the semi-finals at the French Open in 2012 , where they lost 3: 6 and 4: 6 against the top seeded Max Mirny and Daniel Nestor .
On August 7, 2015, the court of the Italian Tennis Association gave him a life ban and a fine of 40,000 euros. He and Potito Starace were charged with match fixing. Finally, in early 2018, they were acquitted by an Italian court. Both now want to demand compensation. In late 2018, however, the ITF reiterated the original guilty verdict, banned Bracciali for life and fined him $ 250,000.
