Cristian Brandi (born June 10, 1970 in Brindisi ) is a former Italian tennis player .

Life

Brandi became a professional tennis player in 1988 and specialized early on in men's doubles. He won his first of a total of twelve titles on the ATP Challenger Tour in Venice in 1990 . In 1992 he was in the double-finals of an ATP tournament for the first time , but lost in San Marino on the side of Federico Mordegan against the Swedes Nicklas Kulti and Mikael Tillström . He won his first career title in ATP Estoril in 1994 without a fight, as the final opponents Richard Krajicek and Menno Oosting did not compete. He won his second and last double title on the ATP World Tour in 1997 at the side of Filippo Messori in San Marino. In the course of his career he was in a total of eight finals on the ATP Tour and in the final of the International Series Gold Tournament in Barcelona , which he lost to Paul Haarhuis and Yevgeny Kafelnikow at the side of Massimo Bertolini . He reached the highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1989 with position 544 in singles and 2000 with position 50 in doubles.

In the individual, he could never qualify for a Grand Slam tournament. In the doubles competition, his best results were third round participation at the French Open 1997 and Wimbledon 1995 and 2000. He also competed in mixed at these two tournaments, but failed in the first round.

Brandi played three doubles games for the Italian Davis Cup team between 1994 and 1995 . At the side of Stefano Pescosolido he won two of his games, but the game against Jared Palmer and Richey Reneberg in the quarter-finals of the 1995 world group was lost. This was both his greatest success with the team and his last game in the Davis Cup.
