Richey Reneberg (born October 5, 1965 in Phoenix , Arizona ) is a retired American tennis player . He achieved two Grand Slam wins in doubles in his career . In 1993 he was world number one in doubles.

Life

Reneberg graduated from Southern Methodist University . He reached the final of the National Collegiate Athletic Association in 1986 and became a professional tennis player the following year. In his career he won 19 double titles. His greatest successes were victories in 1992 at the US Open with Jim Grabb , and in 1995 at the Australian Open with Jared Palmer . He was also in the doubles finals at Wimbledon in 1992 , where he lost in five sets with Jim Grabb against Michael Stich and John McEnroe .

He won three individual titles on the ATP World Tour , in 1991 he won in Tampa on clay against Petr Korda , this year he also achieved his best individual placement in the tennis world rankings with position 20. He won his last title in 1996 at the Ordina Open . He booked four more finals, the last one in 1997, when he lost to Mark Philippoussis in Las Vegas . In addition to the two Grand Slam titles, he achieved 17 double victories on the ATP World Tour, nine of them with his partner Jim Grabb. He was able to win the tournaments in Sydney , Atlanta and Scottsdale twice.

Reneberg played for the US Davis Cup team between 1993 and 1998 . He had five wins and three defeats in the double competition. In 1993 he had his only appearance in singles, in a 5-0 win against Bahamas he won against John Farrington . He competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta for the United States, but was eliminated in the first round against Leander Paes .
