Neil Broad (born November 20, 1966 in Cape Town , South Africa ) is a retired British tennis player .

Life

Broad attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and was voted in the All-American selection. He became a professional tennis player in 1986 and soon began to specialize in men's doubles. He achieved his first double title on the ATP World Tour in 1989 at the side of Gary Muller in Washington . In the course of his career he won a total of seven doubles tournaments. He was also in 17 finals, including the Masters tournament in Cincinnati . There he lost with Muller against the Australians Darren Cahill and Mark Kratzmann . He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1989 with position 84 in singles and 1990 with position nine in doubles.

His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the second round at the Australian Open , the French Open and Wimbledon . In the doubles competition he reached the semi-finals alongside Gary Muller in 1990, in Wimbledon and at the US Open he was able to advance into the quarter-finals once with Piet Norval .

Broad played eleven doubles games for the British Davis Cup team between 1992 and 2000 , his record 4-7. During this time, the team was able to qualify twice for the world group, but failed each time in the first round. His twin partners included Jeremy Bates , Greg Rusedski and Tim Henman. At the 1996 Summer Olympics , he joined Tim Henman for Great Britain. With a semi-final victory over the German doubles Marc-Kevin Goellner and David Prinosil , they moved into the final, where they were inferior to the Australians Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde in the game for the gold medal and won the silver medal.

Broad is married and has one daughter.
